CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING.
TAKAPUNA GUN CLUB
A large gathering of ihooters, including members of the Metropolitan and Auckland Gun Clubs, also the well-known sportsman Mr. J. McMullun, of Kaikohe, North Auckland, attended a very successful clay-bird shoot of the Takapuna Gun Club at their grounds, Barry's Point, on Saturday. The principal event was a 15-bird match for a trophy donated by Mr. M. H. Tisdall, of Auckland. This event was won by \\\ E. Grant, off ltiyds, on the twentieth bird, after a shoot-off with F. H. Seccombe and \V. E. Nehoff. Conditions were ideal, and some excellent shooting was witnessed during the afternoon, especially the line shooting of \V. E. Grant, F. H. Seccombe and \V. 10. Nehoff, who all shot the possible of 15 birds each (all iirst barrel breaks). This was Mr. XV. E. Nehoff's first appearance on the Takapuna Gun Club's ground at clay bird shooting. Results :—• Seven-bird Bye-opener Sweep.—W. E. Grant (ltiyds), 1,. J. Henderson ('lsyds), J. McM ill la li (17yds), and L. Peterson (19yds) all shot the possible of seven birds, and divided the sweep money. K. S. Mowbray (15yds), K. H. Bartley (17yds) and F. If. Hazard (18yds) all shot six birds each, and tied for second place. The next best score was F. Kay-Strattou (15yds) with live breaks. Fifteen-bird Handicap Match.-—W. E. Grant (10yds), I'. H. Seccombe (17yds) and W. E. Nehoff (14yds) all shot the possible of fifteen birds (all first barrel breaks by each competitor), and divided the sweep money. In the shoot-off for the trophy (five birds), F. H. Seccombe and \V. E. Nehoff shot four birds each, W. E. Grant shooting his five birds and taking the trophy. F. Kay-Stratton (15yds) and E. J. Henderson (15yds) shot 14 birds each, and lied for second place. ,T. Miller (17yds) and K. H. Bartley (17yds) shot 13 birds each and tied for third place. There were 13 competitors in this match. Seven-bird Gimcrack Sweep.—F. H. Seccombe (14-20.vds), J. McMullun (13-19 yds) and K. S. Mowbray (12-lSyds) all shot, the possible of seven birds and divided 'the' sweep" money. R'. 11. Bartley (14-10 yds), E. J. Henderson (13-18 yds), W. A. Nehoff ( 14-lilyds), E. Peterson (14-20 yds) all shot six birds each, and tied for second place. Seven-bird Box Sweep, off 24yds.—E. Petersen, J. McMullan and \V. E. Grant all shot the possible of seven birds, and divided the sweep money. E. J. Henderson and F. H. Seccombe shot six birds each and tied for second place. Seven-bird Quail Drive Sweep.—J. McMullan (luvds) shot the possible of seven birds and won outright the sweep money. F H. Seccombe (ltiyds) and F. KayStratton (14yds) tied for second place with fivi! brcak;i each. During the afternoon Mr. J. McMullan, of Kaikohe, North Auckland, presented Mr. Tisdall's trophy to Mr. \V. E. Grant, the. winner, also a large framed photograph of the Takapuna Gun Club teams (on behalf of the club), runners-up for .the teams trophy shoot, held at the Metropolitan Gun Club's grounds last week. During the day W. E. Grant shot 42 birds without a miss, J. McMullan shot 28 without a miss, F. H, Seccombe shot 37 out of 41, L. J. Henderson shot 33 out of 36, R. H. Bartley sb'ot 25 out of 29, W. E. Nelioft shot 25 out of 27. The next shoot is on Saturday, October 21. for L. J. Henderson's trophy. Three new members joined up during the day.- i
