TIME-SHEET FORGED.
RELIEF WORKER'S OFFENCE.
A relief worker appeared oil summons ii) the Police Court yesterday a charge of forging ail Auckland City Council time-sheet, knowing it to be falep, in order tliat it should be acted upon as genuine. Senior Detective Hall said he interviewed defendant on September 7 regarding the alteration of tljree timesheets (produced). Defendant said they were the ones he had filtered. Cross-examined by Mr. W. Nobje, for defendant, Senior Detective Hall said he nin)erstpc(d "defendant had recpiypd for three days fov the >yeek ended August 17, but tliQt lie worked three dfiys the following week to make up for it. A statement made by defendant w?is produced. In this lip said that he \vss handed time-sheets in an open envelope to take and hand to another reljef worker, who would later take the package to the timekeeper at tlie To\yn Hall, and that he took opt the timesheet and made the alteration. ,! .It was solejy due to my physical condition and heing unable tp worjc that I altgrpd the time-sheets for the purpose of getting some money to keep the house going, as I have been unable to earn any outside money since being pn relief," said defendant in his statement. He added that he was a married man with a wife and three children. Defendant pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence in the Supreme Court. He was allowed his liberty in the meantime.
