WELCOMING SECRETARY.

The newly-appointed chief secretary to the Salvation Army in Auckland, Colonel A. Orsborn, was • welcomed by large gatherings during the week-end. He spoke at open-air meetings in Fort and Pitt Streets, in the evening, and in the Devonport, Newton and Congress Halls 011 Sunday. An officers' council was held yesterday in the Congress Hall, with Commissioner Cunningham presiding, to introduce Colonel Orsborn to the district officers. It was followed by an open-air meeting in Victoria Street, and a procession to the Town Hall. Mrs. Orsborn, descended from an old New Zealand pioneering family, addressed a meeting of the Home League. Colonel Orsborn returns to Wellington to-day.
