POWER SUPPLY.
FUTURE CONTROL QUESTION
"BREACH DEVELOPING."
"It is quite evident that there is a breach developing between the supply authorities and the power boards," said Mr. W. J. Holdsworth, chairman of the Auckland Electric Power Board at the meeting of the board yesterday afternoon, in commenting oil the business of the recent conference of the power boards and supply authorities in Wellington. "The first remit that caused a good deal of discussion," said Mr. Holdsworth, "was to the effect that the hydro-electric department should be removed from the control of the Public Works Department and put into the hands of commissioners. It was pointed out at the. conference that, with regard to the reorganisation of the association, the Leader of the Opposition said that he would Birpport all the promises made by the Prime Minister. But it appears that the time has passed when the association should concentrate on legislation."
Most of the remits dealt with at the conference concerned the problems of the individual boards. The time had come when there should be a permanent secretary in order that there might be a central clearing house. Through such an office information could be passed on which dealt with aspects of power supply business tin t might affect boards generally. "However, a committee has been set up." continued the chairman, "to formulate a proposal for co-ordination which will be submitted to all boards, and to the conference in Wellington. We in New Zealand should be ready to alter our policy in order to receive the maximum benefit from the £40,000,000 that has been spent on power supply in the Dominion."
