WOMAN ADMITS BIGAMY.
UNSATISFACTORY REPORT.
On condition that she remains at St. Joseph's Home, Waikowhai, for 12 months, May Matilda Lowdcn, aged 25, was admitted to probation for two years by his Honor Mr. Justice Herdman at the Supreme Court this morning. The woman had admitted the charge of bigamy. Mr. Bennett, counsel for the prisoner, said she had lived with her husband only six weeks, and with the second man she had "married" only three weeks. After the marriage her husband went to lingland and she followed later, to find when she arrived that he had left the Navy and was in hospital suffering from consumption. She bad later returned to New Zealand and gone through the form of marriage, with a naval petty officer named Glass. His Honor, in admitting Lowden to probation, said the police report about her was unsatisfactory. The report stated that she was always associating with sailors. He proposed to act on the suggestion of Major Gordon, female probation officer, and admit prisoner to probation.
