LATEST LONDON CABLES.

BUTTER SLOW OF SALE. Latest advices from London indicate a failure on the part of the market to maintain the steady rise which took placc in the price of butter in tire last few weeks. One cable describes the market as "stagnant and declining." However, London dealers have sufficient confidence in the market to raise their advance rate for butter and cheese to be supplied during October as compared with September rates, which opened at a low level. According to a cable received this morning by Mr. U. S. Withers from his principal, Mr. A. G. Kowson, London ' advances for butter over the month of October will be lOMid per lb, and for cheese 4%d. The corresponding figures for September were OVid . 'id 4%d. The weekly cable received by the Press Association from London reads as follows:— Butter is slow. Choicest salted, New Zealand and Austiulian, 104/ to 100/ per cwt; unsalted,- scarce, 2/ premium. Cheese is quiet. New Zealand, white and coloured, 53/; Australian, coloured, 51/. MERCHANTS' CABLES. The following cables have been received this morning by local merchants from their London principals:—• A. S. Paterson and Co. (principals, Messrs. J. and J.
