CALL SUSTAINED.
PRESBYTERIAN MODERATOR
ONEHUNGA'S REGRET
At a special meeting of the Auckland Presbytery last evening the call received by. the Rt. Rev. J>. D. Scott, of Onehunga, to Khandallah, Wellington, was considered and a resolution sustaining the call was passed. The Rev. T. Cuttle and the Rev.«W. J. Comrie represented the congregation of Khandallah, and on behalf of the congregation of the Onehunga church, Messrs. C. J. Byles, 11. A. Stoupe, J. Hitt and Captain H. 11. Sergeant put forth reasons why Mr. Scott should remain at Onehunga.
Mr. Comrie said that 158 communicants of the Khandallah Church had signed the call, and he felt confident that if it were sustained the Onehunga congregation, though realising that Mr. Scott's departure would be a great loss to them, would remain true to the church. Mr. Scott was Moderator of the General Assembly, and from the centralised position which Khandallah provided ho would have a splendid chance of leading the activities of the Presbyterian Church.
Captain Sergeant said that the transfer of Mr. Scott would mean a great lose to Onehunga, where, during a long period of service, he had won the esteem of the congregation. Messrs. Byles, Stoupe and Hitt endorsed the remarks of Captain Sergeant, and a petition supporting the retention of Mr. Scott at Onehunga, signed by 134 of the younger members of the church, was read.
Mr. Scott said that while he felt drawn to the Onehunga Church, he thought it was his dutv to accept the call.
The call was sustained, as was also a call from Southbridge, Canterbury, to the Rev. R. R. Adair.
