RACING AT RANDWICK

THE SPRING MEETING.

ACCEPTORS FOR TO-MORROW. A.J.C. DERBY. The spring meeting of the Australian Jockey Club will open at Randwick tomorrow and will be continued on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday of next week, and great interest will be taken in the iixture, in view of the New Zealand horses engaged.

The A.J.C. Derby and the Epsom Handicap will be decided to-morrow.' In the iormer event .Limarch and Deputy Ruler will be the New Zealand representatives, Loth being owned and bred in Auckland. Limarch won the Hobartville Stakes, seven furlongs, at Warwick Farm on August 26, but was beaten into third place in the Kosehill Guineas on September 16. However, during the interim, he was suffering from foot trouble and that, no doubt, contributed to his defeat, He has evidently recovered, for lie has been galloping weil at Randwick since and should run a good race. Deputy Ruler was beaten by a head in the 1-lying Stakes at Rosebery a fortnight ago and last week won the Sir Herbert Maitland Stakes, w.f.a., seven furlongs, at Victoria Park, beating among others Amnion Ra, Break Up (who is also engaged in the Derby), Topical (.favourite for tlic Metropolitan Handicap), Top Hole and Bold Boy (who are well fancied fertile Epsom Handicap) and Silver Scorn. If the race is not run at too fast a pace in the early stages be will have a chance. Blixten, who is one of the principal fancies for the event, is New Zealand-bred, being by Night Raid from Receipt. He was second to Limarch in the Hobartville Stakes and later won the Rosehill Guineas. Blixten and Deputy Ruler are both trained by G. Price. Rreak Up is an Australianbred colt and is owned by Mr. H. R. Telford, part-owner and trainer of the champion Phar Lap. Waikare is New Zealand-bred and is owned by Mr. E. J. Watt, who for a number of years was a prominent owner in the Dominion. Waikare is by Limond from Waterwings, and, therefore, a full-brother to Agrion. He won a high-weight handicap, one mile, at Hawkesbury last Saturday. Hall Mark is by Heroic, and prior to being defeated into third place in the Memsie Stakes, nine furlongs, at Caulfield on September 2, he was thought to have a great chance in the Derbies, but now his staying ability is doubtl d. Rapsonia, who finished second to the New Zealand-bred Wheriko, in the Warriston Handicap, a race for three-year-olds over a mile, at Caulfield, has friends.

Chatham,_after his brilliant successes in the Warwick Stakes at Warwick Farm and the Hill Stakes at Rosehill, is favourite for the Epsom Handicap, an event lie won last year, with 5.13, beating Rogilia and Winooka. Inflation, bred and owned in New Zealand, won the Camellia Stakes, seven furlongs, at Rosehill on September 16, aft'd at Hawkesbury last Saturday scored over a mile. He is next best fancied. Cottesmore, another New Zealander, showed plenty of speed when he won a double yt the Grand National meeting. In the .Camellia Stakes at Rosehill, however, he ran very wide at the turn, due to his saddle breaking and his jockey being unable to control him. Silver Scorn, who lias disappointed since she-commenced lief racing in Sydney, is in the Spring Stakes, while on Monday Master Brierly and Inflation are in the Metropolitan Handicap.
