POINTS FOR COMRADES.
If the New Lynn team had maintained tlie form they displayed four or live weeks ago their match with Comrades at New Lynn on Saturday would have exciting tussle. As it was; the home team could not get going proper j, and were defeated by two goals to nil. game was not lacking in entertainment howe\ei in the second half, as the referees rulings did not find favour with New plav became willing, though not Comrades showed superiority throughout. The New Lynn baeks nevertheless put in some splendid work, which the forwanls failed to finish oil'. 'I hey had not the cohesion of their opponents attack. IjOIU goalies played coolly, l'age had a good share of work, but New Lynn s shooting was usually erratic, White was the busiei of the Comrades' backs, as the opposing right wing was used more. Cashin kicked well, llis clearances were well judged, in the half-back line the visiting team had reliable players who understood the forwards thoroughly. Kinnaird was splendid, and Ilooton and Egan were good when they were busy. Both front wings fought well, and their combined offensives were worthwhile Soccer. Wright took centre passes neatlv enough, and Morris did well to let only two halls in the net. Skinner, Lvans, Francis, and Fletcher kept New Lynn bus}, Their heading was also dangerous. When the second half started with New I,vim two down the position looked baa lot tliem, but after a while they went through time after time, always without resultMunro and Tteid were the most reliable loi their side, both showing their usual .luugment. With A. Watson and Iwinn, •). Watson, a younger player, was in the halves, replacing .Tones. The newcomer did well enough, though the others took most of the work 011 themselves. Their game was not vital 111 tactics, however, owing to the suddenness and sureness of Comrades change overs, and, like the forwards, they hung on to the 'bail far too long. Hamilton and McGrory played their usual individualistic games, but did not shoot straight. Thev did not use the centre as much as tliev might have. .T. Can- had several bright spots ns tlio game grew but got nowhere. Stewart was played again at outside right, but was sternly marked I).\ White all the way. For the last half hour the match resembled a keen debate, referee and all. There was much unnecessary ieeling engendered, which reached a climax when McGrory was ordered oil the Held. Altogether control of the game was lacking in the last half hour.
