CULT OF BEAUTY.

CARE OF THE FACE.

THE CHEEK MUSCLES,

(By A BEAUTY SPECIALIST.)

Do you know why a singer's face retains its youtlifulncss long after othei faces of the same age have begun to look old? It is because the cheek muscles arc so well developed that they do not sag, thus giving the face that nicely-rounded contour so necessary to a youthful appearance. The musclcs are developed, not only by singing, but by special exercises designed for that purpose. Do noti be discouraged if you cannot sing. Here is a breathing exercise given me by a vocal teacher which will develop these musclcs without your singing a single note. Stand erect and breathe deeply. Hold the diaphragm firmly but without tension. Now expel the breath through the nose in little' puffs. In other words, pant like a dog on a liot day, but with the mouth closed. Raise the clieek muscles as though about to smile, and send the breath into the large cavity back of and on either side of the nose. You can practise this exercise anywhere, though, of course, it is better to have fresh air in the room if you do it indoors. Or you may practise it while walking, and the oftener you do it the sooner you will see resiilts.

For the Eyes. S, Inflamed eyelids and lustreless pupils of tired eyes need afford no worry to tlie girl who knows this beauty secret. Whenever the eyes are in a tired condition batlie them in luke-warm milk. Then close them for a few minutes to rest the nerves. Upon opening tliem, you will be surprised to find that not only has the natural brightness returned to the eyes, but tliey feel very cool and rested. Your lashes will also become curly and thicker, adding more beauty.

To Add to One's Stature. If you take simple stretching exercises two or three times a day for a year, your height will increase. Rising on toes, and stretching the tips _of the fingers as far towards the ceiling as they will go, and sweeping hands over front, touching tips of fingers or palms of hands to floor, keeping both knees straight, are excellent exercises if you would grow taller. To Clear the Skin. The following recipe is one of the best beauty aids I know of, and is endorsed by physicians throughout France. Every morning, for ten consecutive mornings, fill two glasses half-full of water. Squeeze into one half of one lemon, into the other one quarter teaspoonful of soda. This done, pour the lemon into the soda and drink while effervescing. Repeat for ten mornings, stop for five, then begin again. If this is carried out you will have no blemishes resulting from constipation. An Inexpensive Beauty Paste. An inexpensive beauty paste, which produces gratifying results, is easily made from common yeast. Dissolve one cake of yeast in enough clear milk to form a consistency of paste. Apply this paste to your face and neck and allow to.dry. When thoroughly dry, wash off with warm water. Dry your face and neck and apply very cold water or ice to close the pores. Now use a good cream to soften the skin. Witness the result in your mirror. A Good Astringent. An oily complexion is very annoying, especially in warm weather. A particularly good astringent to be applied after cleansing the face is composed of -Joz of witchhazel, Aoz tincture of benzoin, loz spirits of wine and soz orange flower water. Mix the witchhazel and orange flower water, add to the other ingredients, which have been poured into a rather large bottle, and shake well before using.
