MUSEUM EXHIBITIONS.

Among recent additions to the Auckland War Memorial Museum is a stone head from the Marquesas, which has been presented by the Papeete Museum. The head is in hard stone, about 18m high in the traditional Marquesan style. A straight slit for the mouth and enormous circles representing the eyes make the tiki a fearsome looking object. It was originally used for a decoration m the front of a native terrace. The Indian and Persian art exhibition now being held at the museum will close on Friday, when a repeat exhibition of the Humphreys-Davies collection of Chinese ceramics will be opened. In addition to the pottery there will be on view a collection of brass vessels from Chinese temples and houses. These vessels are in very heavy brass, and the amount of decoration is limited.
