NORTHERN UNION TROPHY. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") HUNTLY, Saturday. A record crowd witnessed a thrilling display on the new Huntly domain ground to-day, when West Coast met South Auckland for the Northern Union Cup. When they settled down G. Tittleton had a penalty shot, and the Coast team, aided by a pretty left wing move by Dodds, O'Connor, and Hunt, invaded, Dodds brilliantly intercepting a pass and going over to score and convert. West Coast 5, South Auckland 0. The Waikato side retaliated in rousing fashion. After a fine sideline run by Braun, G. Tittleton and Pakl made a great dash, but the defence held. Peckham went close with a penalty shot. Both sides played with vim, and for some minutes operations were niidfield, from where magnificent handling by Pitt, Garry, Pockham, W. Tittleton, and Paki found Peckham round for an extra pass. Paki again received inside and was tackled a few yards out. South Auckland were now battling hard, and G. Tittleton featured in a strong run. West Coast were almost over from the- loose when Scott averted with a long ranging kick. The home thirteen forwards were holding the ascendancy at this stage. Peckham and G. Tittleton missed further goal attempts. Tlttleton's strong running was troubling the visitors. Masters lifted the siege with an exploiting kick, and West Coast attacked, O'Connor going within inches of a try. Play shifted Into the Coast area, where, from a bad miss by Martyn, Mcßurney bustled Hart, who was tackled behind. Although South Auckland continued to hold the territorial advantage, the West Coast defence was solid, with their full-back, Martyn, proving safe under a severe test. The play was not open or spectacular, as in the first spell. Both G. and W. Tittleton were seen in dangerous attempts at each corner. After 25 minutes' play the home forwards strove strenuously for honours, and their reward came when Timms barged across in a good position. G. Tittleton missed the shot for goal. Stung by the reverse, the visitors attacked vigorously and Glynn and Hart stormed to the corner. Exciting and fiery forays ensued, tho Coast having a slight advantage. A change occurred flve minutes before time, when, following through a loose rush, Peckham scored, but failed to equalise. Walknto pressed hard, G. Littleton and Peckham missing penalty shots. Hill, president of the South Auckland League, said it was the first win by the South Island centre. Messrs. A. Anisy and L. Hunter, the managers, replied amid cheers.

WEST COAST TEAM ARRIVES. The West Coast team arrived yesterday morning by train from Huntly. The tourists, the first South Island province to win the trophy, are at Hotel Auckland. They are in charge of Messrs. A. Anisy, a prominent member of the West Coast League, and A. Hunter, an ex-representa-tive player, and one of the selectors. The visitors were met yesterday by Messrs. G. Grey Campbell and Ivan Culpan (Auckland League) and Mr. Webster (New Zealand Council). Arrangements nave been made for the team's entertainment, including a motor drive, prior to departure for Northland on Wednesday. The team to represent Auckland against tho West Coast on Saturday next at Carlaw Park is as follows: —Campbell (Marist), Bright (Ponsonby), Wayne (City), L. Schultz (Marist), Cooke, captain (Richmond), Prentice (Richmond), Hassam (Marist), Clarke (City), Campbell (Marist), Donald (Devonport), Satherley (Richmond), Lawless (Richmond), Hall (Newton). Emergencies: Leatherbarrow, Seagar, Axeman.

The teams are to meet at Carlaw Park on Tuesday and Thursday next at 7.30, the team to be coached by Mr. J. Rukutai. Any player not available is asked to notify Mr. B. Ashcr.
