LEAGUE FOOTBALL
KEPIA RUMOUR UNFOUNDED,
TEAM CHANGES LIKELY.
Auckland football circles were agog yesterday and again to-day with the suggestion that the well-known Rugby Union international, George Nepia, was to arrive in the city to appear with Richmond Rovers in the Roope Rooster knock-out final at Carlaw Park tomorrow, but inquiries in official Rugby League quarters prove the claim to be without foundation.
However, it is known that most of the senior clubs are introducing new players for the challenge round. Ponsonby have secured the services of two forwards—G. Whye, of Otahuhu, and R. Jones, who was emergency for the Northland pack on Saturday and has started work in Auckland. Marists have signed up the Northland forward, White. Newton also have a change or two, and it is probable that there will be a few other surprises.
The Richmond-City match will count as & fixture in the challenge competition, and not the first half result only as previously reported.
CHANGE OF .FIXTURE. The second grade League football match, Otahuhu v. Ellerslie, t'j-morrow afternoon, will be played at Manukau instead of at Mangere, as first arranged.
