Karly in the week the houseboat which is anchored in the Wanganui River, al. the mouth of the Retaruke Stream, narrowly escaped destruction. The caretaker states that suddenly the houseboat was swept by a wall of water about eight feet high, whereupon the structure rocked violently and there was flooding on the decks.
The incident cannot be accounted for except that possibly U'e Hetaruke stream was blocked by a slip and water became suddenly released.
