DOLLAR BILLS.

WHAT RATE IN N.Z. ?

GOLD PREMIUM QUESTION. (B.v Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Despite the fact that America lias gone off the gold standard, some shippers of American goods to New Zealand have sent forward bills for payment in gold dollars, or their equivalent in paper dollars, ignoring the depreciation in the currency and seeking payment at the previous gold rate. Christchurcli banks have had occasion to notice a number of cases of this kind. The' importer in one case refused to give value in gold dollars, as the shippers stipulated, and the documents were not handed over by the bank. When an indemnity was given by another bank, the documents were lifted. It has not yet been ascertained whether the shippers will press for payment on the higher scalc. as it cannot be in their future interests to do so.
