FEWER TRIPS.

BAYSWATER FERRIES. HARBOUR BOARD APPROVES. An amended time-table, allowing for fewer trips in the city-Bayswater ferry service, was approved by the Auckland Harbour Board at its meeting yesterday afternoon. Tho board was not unanimous, eight members voting for the motion and four against it. It was stated in a letter from the Devonport Ferry Company that the revenue from the service had decreased by £2541 in three years. Only one trip would be omitted daily from Monday to Friday, and three on Sundays. On Saturday the number of trips would be as at present. A petition, signed by 1250 .Takapuna residents, asking board not to agree to any curtailment of the service, was presented by Mr. W. B. Darlow. The chairman, Mr. T. B. Clay, said that the matter had been fully _ considered by the board in committee. When all the circumstances had been considered he thought that the new time-table, as amended by the company, should be agreed to. Mr. A. J. Parker said that he thought in many cases the public had been misled as to the company's intentions. It was not intended to make _ a big break in the time between trips, but merely to run three trips instead of four, by adding ten minutes on to the time between trips. Mr. J. Sayegh. considered that the way in which the, Ferry Company had treated the Takapuna Council was a slight on the board. Mr. T. Bloodworth said that he would oppose the proposed alteration in the service, not on behalf of Takapuna residents, but on behalf of city people who used the ferries. > Mr. C. G. Macindoe said that economic conditions had changed considerably since the board approved the present time-table. He did not think that the proposed curtailments would cause any great hardship.
