In the stope on the S. branch reef the formation is 120 in wide and is carrying zinc blende and silica and a little gold is seen. GOLDMINING PROSPECTS. During the last fortnight much activity has taken place in gold mining at Thames, following the recent, discovery of a rich reef at Tapu, in the vicinity of the Mahara, Royal and Shannon claims. This week Messrs. Sarich and Cropp, two tributors working in the Dawn of Hope ground some distance up the Monnataiari Creek, struck another rich leader, from which two loads have yielded 20oz, an average of 4oz to the ton. This is not the same leader that these tributors were working some time back and from which £1000 worth of gold was won. It is the intention of Messrs. Sarich and Cropp to open up and develop both leaders. A number of prospectors hnve been engaged for some time in virgin country at Otanui, ahove the head of tlie Hnpe Crpek, on the eastern watershed, and during the week-end the mining executive of the unemployment committer paid a visit of inspection to this area. The Thames Prospecting Association have also been active during the week, inspecting several sites for the erection of mills for crashing -low-grade oreEL
