SPILT INK CLUB.
The tliinl meeting of the Spilt Ink Club, Auckland branch, was held 011 Saturday evening at the residence of Mrs. I. M. Cluett, "Tiroroa," St. Johns Road, Remuera. There was a good attendance, and a happy and instructive evening was spent, Mrs. C'luett gave an amusing poem entitled "The Blot," which she had written specially for the Spilt Ink Club, and by special request repeated her satire on Celebrities, written after a visit of a New Zealander to a literary gathering of modern writers in London. Mrs. Una Craig gave a paper, "Our Attitude Towards Ourselves." The writer mentioned a criticism she had read of New Zealand literary work, especially to the writing of fiction. Mrs. Craig touched on the possibility of two races intermingling in New Zealand and what the resultant race would be. Mrs. Gilbert contributed a paper, "Tile Inky Way," and likened the club members to pilgrims of the inky way, a road that goes uphill and down, full of jolts and hard knocks for the aspiring writer. The writer described the different word pictures each were making. Some beautiful, some crude and sordid.
