DRAINAGE OF LAKE.
PROTEST BY SPORTSMEN. SETTLERS CARRY PROJECT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Despite the opposition of a number of sportsmen, a large meeting of Leeston settlers last evening approved of plans for the construction of a mole to ensure a permanent outlet for the drainage of Lake Ellesmere. The Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr. W. Stewart, and Professor Pcrcival told the meeting that sporting activities on the lake would not be interfered with whatever. They said that in this connection the Acclimatisation Society was under a misapprehension.
