ENROLMENT CLAIMS.

THE SUPPLEMENTARY ROLL. REPLY TO COMPLAINT. A complaint from the Auckland Labour Representation Committee that fornix for enrolment on the. municipal roll deposited with the returning officer were not acknowledged, and that electors in consequence did not know whether their names were on the supplementary roll or not, also that a few were disfranchised, was received at the meeting of the City Council last evening. The registrar of electors reported that there was no provision in the Municipal' Corporations Act, under the regulations of which the district electors' list is compiled, for advising acknowledgment of claims for enrolment. However, that did not prevent the council authorising the acknowledgment; it was purely a matter of expense. At the recent election there were 4000 claims lodged, and the postage alone in acknowledging them would have been £8 6/. The registrar explained that if a claim was irregular the claimant was advised that it had been disallowed, and if in order then it was enrolled. «The contention that some of the electors were disfranchised was stated to be incorrect, as the only ones that were not enrolled were those who had failed to complete their claim by leaving' out their address, or else by claiming qualification for streets not within the city limits. It was decided to reply in the terms of the registrar's report.
