DEATH OF E. J. DILLON.

(Received 1.30 p.m.) LOXDOX, June 9. The death has occurred of Dr. Eaiilc Joseph Dillon, the famous Irish author and journalist, at the age of (J!).

Dr. Dilion was born in Dublin of ;m Irish father and an English mother. A natural enthusiasm for Oriental languages and literature induced him to study Sanskrit, Arabic, Hebrew and Persian. He travelled a great deal in. Russia and Europe during tin's period, contributing frequently to English newspapers and periodicals. Appointed in JBB7 correspondent in Russia of the London. "Daily Telegraph," he woe associated with it for over 40 years. In 1894, when Turkey was accused "of trying to exterminate the Armenians, Dillon vent to find out the truth. He was with Venizelos in Crete when he was proscribed by the Turks, and was in the confidence of Count Witte and Count Achrenthal. Illness compelled him to cease work for some years, during vliicli he lived in Spain. In May, 1932. however, his name reappeared in the Press as the author of a series of articles on "The Truth About Spain:" He wrote a number of works of linguistic and theological interest, stories in Russian, , translations from various languages, and a biography of Maxim Gorky, "Why Italy Went lo War " "Ourselves and Germany," "The Edipse of Russia," "Mexico on the Verge/' '"President Obregon, n World Reformer." "Russia To-day and Yesterday." and in April, 1932, "Leaves From Life."
