PIONEER'S BIRTHDAY.

MRS. SARAH YOUNG, OF MT, EDEN.

Many messages of congratulation were sent to Mrs. Sarah Young, of Milton Road, Mount Eden, yesterday, when she had her eighty-ninth birthday. Mrs. Young is a colonist of nearly 60 years, and since her arrival by the ship Huntly Castle in 1874 she has continued to live in Auckland. Her husband was the late Mr. John Young, who was in business in Shortland Street for a quarter of a century, until his death over 30 years ago. Mrs. Young is still able to lead an active life and suffers little from the frailties of age. One of hpr three sons is the Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health, who visited her yesterday, and the others are Mr. W. Evans Young, of Auckland, and Mr. J. T. Young, of Te Awamutu.
