UNJUST TRAM SECTIONS.
MT. ALBERT OOMPILAINTS
Complaints that injustice was being done to residents on the Mount Albert tramway section were voiced by a deputation that waited on the Auckland Transport Board this morning and asked for the elimination of one section. The request was supported by the Mount Albert Borough Council. The chairman. Mr. J, A. C. Alluin, asked what would be the result to the shopkeepers at Mount Albert terminus if the section were made to end at Richardson Road. Mr. T. A. Hadlow, a member of the deputation, said that the majority should be considered. Mr. Alluin said careful consideration would be given to the representations. In tramway undertakings anomalies ■ were inevitable. A serious one was that 'residents in the older and more densely populated portions of the city had to pay a higher fare in proportion to distance than residents of the outlying areas, owing to the penal fare on the first section. Wkn a new extension was made it was usual for the fares at first proposed to be continued for three years in order that some recompense might come as the result of the outlay. It was decided to refer the representations to the board in committee, and to brinsr them un for consideration concurrently with the estimates. Mr. Richard Staines, of 35, Coyle Street, Sandringham, was injured in a collision while riding a motor cycle with side van in Queen Street, near the Civic Square, at 11 o'clock this morning. He was taken to the Auckland Hospital by the St. John Ambulance suffering from body injuries, but his condition is not serious.
