SHELTER SHEDS.
WHOSE RESPONSIBILITY?
TRANSPORT BOARD'S VIEWS,
responsibility for tlie erection of shelter sheds on the Auckland transport syetem was discussed by members of the Transport Board this morning, when a letter was received asking for a shelter on the Tamaki Drive. The chairman, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, explained that the board had decided in the past not to erect (shelters unless the local body concerned contributed half the cost. Mr. G. Grey Campbell said he could not sec that that was altogether fair. He was of opinion that the Transport Board itself should erect shelters when they were necessary. They were a board of control and had rating powers. Mr. G. R. Hutchison: We do not exercise them. Mr. Allum said that if. for instance, a'shelter shod wore erected at the Stone .Tilg would it only he tramway passenger« who would tliake use of it? 'A Voice: Bus passengers, too. Mr. E. Morton: Golfers later on. The chairman «aid he would continue to rule that no shelter should be erected itnlcfri half the cost was found by the local body. Mr. W. H. Nn«le said he could not follow the reasoning of the chairman. "Tt appears like reverence for your ancestors," he added. Shelter sheds should ho considered on their merits in each cane. The letter was received.
