BARQUE CLYDE'S ARRIVAL.
ANNIVERSARY TO-MORROW.
To-morrow is the fiftieth anniversary of the arrival of the barque Clyde in Auckland from London. Mr. P. A. Eaddy, of Selwyn Avenue, Kohimarama, whose people arrived in the Dominion by the Clyde 50 years ago, said to-day that the Clyde was a barque, frigate built, of 1140 tons register, and was under the command of Captain Hoyle. This voyage was the only one made by this vessel to New Zealand waters, although she was no stranger to Australian ports. The Clyde left London on February 1, 1883, and, on arriving at the Bay of Biscay, encountered a succession of heavy -ales from ethe south-west and westward. In these gales the starboard lifeboat was washed overboard, and the port, lifeboat was smashed oh the skids, lne cabins, 'tween decks, and storeroom were; filled with water, and a large quantity of stores was damaged.
