RUSH OF BUSINESS. BROKERS' BUSY DAY. AUSTRALIAN. -RISE FELT. BANKS : LEAD OFF STRONGLY. This is proving a memorable day for Auckland stock brokers,< 'for more sales ■were put through this, i.iorniug tiian have been recorded for a considerable period. This exceptional activity followed closely on the heels of repprts of a similar nature received from, Sydney. Sales at the 10 o'clock call covered a fairly wide range, with late values well maintained. Fresh bidding displayed a healthy tone. In the banking section Commercials were firmer, and following-last night's sale at 14/9 there were buyers at 14/8. New South Wales were quoted ex dividend, with buyers at i>29 IU/ and holders asking £1 more.

Government stocks were steady, with buyers for the 4's from .£IOO to £100 10/. According : to maturity dates, and £99 10/ .There were no sellers. There was keen interest in New {Zealand Kefrigeratfrig shares, and after sales 6d higher-; at 12/6/ they were still in request at 12/4._ -.Wailus, .■; too,: attracted more interest than' during the last few days, and sold from £1 1/11 to £1 2/. New Zealand Breweries were in request at £1 0/6, holders still .standing out ior £1 "10/. . Activity at Noon. At the best noon call for many weeks there was a rush of buying, and a strong rise-in the-prices of some of the wellknown scrip. It .was clearly a reflection of the Australian movement. ' Beginning with a keen demand for banking shares the market showed a splendid tone, and transfers came rapidly. Commercial Banks, in the ordinary issues, maintained their value, and showed a rise for the preference shares. E., S. and A. Bank sold at a firm price, and Bank of New Zealand made two rises, first with a reported sale and then with a purchase at £2 6/, the highest price since before Easter.. New Zealand Bank long-term mortgage shares also made a rise. In New Zealand Breweries there was an advance of 9d, rising well above the recent level of values. Burns, Philp shares had their first sale locally for a long period: Next came a burst of activity in Wilsons Cements, showing the spread of* the movement from Australian to New Zealand securities. The rise in prices "-was reflected in later quotations. -

In the mining section Mount Lyells felt the upward pressure and recorded an advance of 1/3. Gillespie's Beach and King Solomon shares also sold freely. Even in the unlisted section there was evidence of the sudden revival, Farmers' Freezing Co. scrip being transferred at better values.
