WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

TE UKtJ. The May meeting.. of the' Te Uku Women'*' Institute was held .on the 18th, when Mrs. Silcockpresided. Two interesting . demonstrations were .given on string sole making* by Mrs. Robson, Pirongia, and barbola work; 'by Mrs. Fow, Hamilton. A "can" competition, which caused a great deal'of amusement, was won by Mies Milda Wilson. Roll of honour: Scones, Mre. Silcock 1, Mrs. Dent 2j sponge cake, Miss Milda Wilaon t, Mrs. Dent 2.., Junior section: Scones and sponge cake, Mies Cynthia Death 1, Miss Violet Bates 2.. The eeagrass stool was won by Mrs. Feathefstonhaugh. KATIKATI. The Katikati branch of the Women's Institute met on Wednesday in the parish hall. There was a very large meeting of members , and ■ several new members were welcomed by the president during the afternoon. After the business meeting was concluded an interesting programme was. carried out. A roll call on dressmaking hints came first, then a competition for scone making, followed by a play reading given by Misses Nancy and Nelle Alley, which was very amusing and greatly appreciated by the audience. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Palmer, Poole, Price and Keith Putt. WAIMATJKTT. A successful "bring and buy," in aid of federation and local schools' funds, was held in the public hall on Saturday by the Waimauku branch of the Women s Institute. Before commencing the afternoon, tibe president, Mrs. Kerr-Taylor, on behalf ;of the members of the institute, presented Mrs. S. Brasington (treasurer),. who is leaving Waimauku, with a folding camera and a greenstone tiki. A recitation was given by Mise Dorna Brasington. Cookery competitions were won by Mesdames r Brasington, Hunt, Martin, Matheson and L. Kerr-Taylor, the judges being Mesdamea Copeland and Charter. A cake was won by Mrs. Lennox, duck by Mrs. L. KerrTaylor and a dinner by Miss Jean Dakere. Competitions were won by Mrs. JDungay and Mr. Jack P&s*b
