NEW LYNN BOROUGH.
REVALUATION REFUSED.
Two applications have recently been made to the Valuation Department by the New Lynn Borough Council for a revaluation of the borough. The request on eacli occasion has teen refused. The council last evening received a letter from the Department, pointing out that the last revision was made in 1031. There were distorts where revaluations had lwen made at a much earlier date, and these were inmore urgent need of revision. The Mayor, Mr. G. Lawson, said the situation was most unsatisfactory. .Inn council should press for an assurance that the. borough would be revalued next year. Many property, owners had taken'full advantage of a certain section of the Act, and brought their valuations down to a very low figure, with the result that the council might ultimately be compelled to raise the rates in order to obtain the necessary income. The council's duty was to provide ratepayers with an opportunity to adjust their values to the new conditions. The unimproved value of the trough had fallen in recent years from £200,000 to below £200,000. It had to be understood that any serious drop in land values would mean a corresponding rise m the borough rates, if the council.was going to meet its obligations. The council accepted the Mayors surfrrestibn, and the Valuation Department will be asked to make a revision " in good tim'e for next year. ■>/
