AUCKLAND ART GALLERY.
MR. C F. GOLDIE'S PAINTINGS
Two exceptionally fine examples of the work of Mr. C. P. Goldie have been hung in the New Zealand section of the Art Gallery. Entitled "Meditation" and " The Last of the Chivalrous Days," both are studies of Maoris, one an old woman and the other an old man. The pictures are the largest canvases depicting Maoris painted by Mr. Goldie, and each measures 4ft "by 3ft 3in. They are considered to exhibit all the best qualities of Mr. Goldie's work in respect of drawing, expression, flesh painting, moko (tatooing), draperies, and Maori carving. The pictures have been loaned by Mrs. N. A. Nathan, but will become the property of the city under the will of the late Mr. Nathan at a later date.
These two pictures bring the number of examples of Mr. Goldie's work possessed by the gallery up to 11. In addition, the gallery is showing a large collection of his work —Maori and other studies —which the artist has loaned to the city.
