SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS

COOK COMPETITIONS. COUNCIL'S ARRANGEMENTS. (P.y Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The ski council of the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand, which has been set up for the purpose of organising sport on a national basis, has fixed Tuesday, August 29, as the date of commencement of the New Zealand ski championships, to be held at Mount Cook. The management committee will have the control of Ball Hut for a period from three days before the meeting.

The council decided that, subject to any alterations necessitated by weather or other conditions, the individual championships would be held in the following order: Downhill, slalom, long distance, jumping.

The Ruapehu Ski Club offered two of its trophies, the New Zealand championship trophy' and the Major Head Cup, for competition. It is proposed to .award the former for the combined clownliill and slalom championships, under the title of the New Zealand ski running championship, and the latter for the jumping championship. An equipment committee was set up to make all necessary arrangements, and in particular for the preparation of several jumping grounds at the scene of the sports. The Australian National Ski Federation wrote accepting the council's invitation to send an Australian team to the championships, but stating that no selection could yet be made. J. C. Robertson and R. Syme, of the Ruapehu Club, intimated their intention of attending the Australian ski championships at Mount Kosciusko at the beginning of August, and they were appointed to represent New Zealand. It was decided to invite further applications from suitable skiers to join the team. Seven clubs were approved for affiliation to tho council, the Ruapeliu Ski Club, the Tararua Tramping Club, the Aorangi Ski Club, the Christchurcli Ski Club, the Canterbury Winter Sports Club, the Tasmaft Ski Club and the Otago Ski Club.

The committee appointed to draw up a scheme for ski tests reported in favoiy of the adoption 'of the British ski tests in toto. These tests, slightly altered to meet New Zealand conditions, ,vcre approved.
