OVERLOADED BUS.

AUCKLAND OWNER FINED. For operating an overloaded bus between Auckland and Pukekohe on the occasion of the Franklin races on March 4, Mrs. F. Crawford was charged in the Pukekohe Court yesterday with exceeding the road classification and with overloading. Inspector E. 11. Barrett stated that when passengers were alighting from the bus at the racecourse lie counted 36, which was five in excess of the number allowed for the vehicle. The maximum laden weight which was permitted on the road between Papakura and Pukekohe was 6 J tons, and the laden weight of the bus was 7 tons 14cwt. \V. Wheeler, of the Auckland Provincial Bus Company, said the company hired the vehicle, and defendant's sou was under the impression that the bus could be run as the company was paying a special fee. However, Wheeler's Arm accepted responsibility for the overloading. The inspector said the bus had no right on the road, as the license did not reach Wheeler's until the day after the races. A fine of £2 and 10/ costs was imposed on each charge.
