FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

INSTALLATIONS. SOCIAL VISITS. JUVENILE LODGE ACTIVITIES. The usual session of the Pride of Roskill Lodge, No. 91, 1.0. G.T., was held on Monday last in the Methodist Hall, Three Kings. The C.T. Bro. E. Cliadderton presided over a fair attendance of members and visitors. The business was very heavy, but was ably dealt with. All tlie retiring officers presented their reports, showing the lodge to be in a satisfactory position. Correspondence from the District Lodge was dealt with, and the suggestion re Anzac Day endorsed. References were made to the okl Good Templar Boys who gave their lives in tlio World Wf,r, the members paying silent homage to their memory. The chief business of the evening was the installation of officers, this being well conducted by the Lodge Deputy, Bro. J. T. C. Chadderton. The new officers are: C.T., Bro. E. C. Chadderton; V.T., Sister Mrs. Chadderton; secretary and S.J.W., Sister M. Chadderton; assistant secretary and registrar, Bro. R. Brown; treasurer, Sister L. Small; financial secretary, Sister A. Sunley; chaplain, Sister M. Hill; marshal, Sister M. Gallagher; deputy marshal, Bro. A. Chadderton; guard, Bro. W. Gallagher; organist and S.E.W., Bro. J. Peacock. The installing officer congratulated the new officers, and spoke regarding their respective duties as officers to their loclgo and fellowmen. The C.T. thanked the members for his re-election to the chief chair of the lodge. Two members applied for their district degree to be conferred at next district meeting.

""The Light of Manukau Lodge, U.A.0.D., met in the Foresters' Hall, Onehunga, on Wednesday evening. _ A good attendance included the following visitors: Bro. G. Stone, district president; Bro. W. Martin, grand vicepresident, Bro. T. Ashe, P. secretary (Ponsonby Lodge), and Bro. H. Pollock, P.D.P. (Roskill). A good deal of business was transacted. A very impressive ceremony was the unveiling of a photograph of the late Bro. J. Clarkson, P.A., the first Arch Druid of the lodge, by the grand vice-president, Bro. Martin. Bro. T. Ashe, another foundation member, who was responsible for the very fine photographic work, also spoke of the many sterling qualities possessed by their first presiding officer. At the close of the evening some enjoyable games of bowls were played.

Mizpah Rebekah Lodge, No. IS, 1.0.0. F., held its first meeting for the new term, the presiding oflicer being Sister D. Purdom, N.G. After the preliminary business, two new candidates received initiation into the Order. The officers put on some new floor work which greatly added to the impressiveness of the ceremony. At the close of the initiation ceremony, Sister Boles, L.D.D.G.M., and her suite were received. The installation of the following officers was then proceeded with: —Treasurer, Sister Horspool; 0.G., Sister Smith; L.S.S., Sifiter Forbes. After lodge was closed, a social was held, during which the N.G. asked Bro. R. Cooper, P.G.M., to make a presentation on behalf of the members to Bro. F. Newbold, P.G. lhe presentation took the form of a cheque in recognition of his many untiring services to the lodge. Bro. Newbold was on tlie eve of departing to attend the conference of the Grand Lodges of Australasia in Adelaide. Bro. Cooper, P.G.M., alfio presented Bro. Newbold with another cheque from Sister Tailby, P.L.D.D.G.M. Sister Horspool (treasurer) and Sister Gear (secretary) were then presented with a very nice bag and gold pencil respectively, from the members of Mizpah Lodge, as small tokens of the esteem in which they are held, and for their many years of valued service.

The Youthful Enterprise Temple, 1.0. G.T., met on Thursday evening, Sister C. McCarthy, C.T., presiding over a good attendance. A visit was received from the officers of the district lodge, under the district chief templar, Bro. Moore, an official welcome being extended to them. The D.C.T. was asked to take charge of the meeting and to conduct the installation of officers. Sister Cant, district secretary, then presented the prizes she promised to those bringing in the most new members, the winners being Sisters C. McCarthy, G. Pace, Bros. Houghton and Baker. Two new members were received into the Order and welcomed. Several of the district officers spoke, congratulating the Temple on its progress and splendid work. The meeting concluded with some concerted items by the children.

At its last meeting, Loyal Ponsonby Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., entertained old members. Quite a good number attended, including several former members of the Sisters of Friendship Lodge. Visitors were also present from Loyal Good Intent, Loyal Remuera, Loyal Parnell, Loyal Mount Albert and Loyal Ranfurly Lodges. During tlie evening Bro. Pitcher, P.D.G.M., gave a .very interesting history of the Poii6onby Lodge from its' inception until the present day. A very enjoyable evening was spent by all in games and dancing.

The weekly session of the Temple of the Rings, No. 48, was held last week, a good attendance being presided over by the C.T., Bro. Covey. After the openin** services, Bro. J. T. Chadderton, DW on the invitation of the superintendent duly installed the officers for the new term. Sister S. Stringer is the new C.T.; Sister E. Hay, V.T.; Bro. J. Dunthome, secretary; Bro. R. Morgan, assistant secretary; Bro. R. Harrison, financial secretary; Bro. R. Young, treasurer; Sister G. Young, chaplain; Bro. T Covey, marshal; Bro. A. Small', dep. marshal'; Bro. R?1 Benjamin, guard; Sister J. Gallagher, sentinel; Bro. C. Covey, P.C.T. Tlie new officers showed great interest in their charges and after the ceremony Bro. Chadderton gave an interesting talk on "Our Duties as Good Templars." One new member was initiated into the Order. The Temple decided a start a basketball team this season.

The Ponsonby branch of the Grand United Order of Oddfellows, at tho-r last meeting, held their installation ceremony for the current term, Bro. J. Prescott. G.T., ably conducting this important ritual. This year's district coiineil is comprised of the following officers;—D.M., Bro. C. H. Robinson; D.D.M., Bro. C. T. Beamish; D.S.. Bro. F. Mackernan; district trusteees, Bros. \ J. Conway, T. F. Tague and C. N. Hair; I.P.D.M. and D.T., Bro. J. Smith; auditors, Bros. J. Maitland and J. Patrick. The social programme for the vear was inaugurated with a card evening on Thursday last, a large attendance and good organising making the evening a great success.

The Fountain of Friendship Lodge held a summoned meeting on Tuesday evening. The lodge was duly opened upon the entrance of the N.G., Bro. McMurtrie, and his officers. A new member was initiated, Bro. le Houx, P.P.G.M., acting as M.C. Bro. H. B. Halstead having been elected treasurer of the lodge, he resigned the office of trustee, Bro. E. Leydon, P.P.G.M., being elected in his stead. Bro. Halstead was elected to the vacancy on the property committee. A presentation was then made to the lodge by Bro. C. Burrows of a silver cup, to be handed to the bowling committee for competition.

The usual meeting of Court Victoria, No. 6G99, A.0.F., was held last week, the boisterous weather causing the muster of members to be much smaller than usual. C.R. Bro. Veart presided, and after the ordinary business, arrangements were formulated for the increase of funds for the social side of the court. After closing the court bowls were played. Members are reminded that next court night is quarter night, and a full muster of members is requested.

Tlio usual fortnightly meeting of tlie Loyal Waimauku Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., was held on Wednesday. Deputy District Grandmaster, Bro. J. E. Allan, presented the lodge with' a shield, which is given for the lodge gaining the highest percentage of membership for the 12 months. Lodges with a membership of under 200 only are eligible for this. Noble Grand Sister L. Tye accepted the shield on behalf of the lodge. Bro. J. A. Gray, group officer, was also present.

The half-yearly installation of officers of Awarua Lodge, No. 83, 1.0.0. F., was held in Taihape recently, tlio ceremony being conducted by D.D.G.M., Bro. O. Prouse, of Palmerston North, assisted by P.D.D.G.M., Bro. A. L. Robb, of Wanganui, and other district lodge officials. The following officers were installed: —N.G., Bro. J. Graham; J.P.G., Bro. F. Reecc; V.G., Bro. R. D. Mayson; R.S., Bro. S. Page; F.S., Bro. G. C. Noble; treasurer, Bro. J. S. Watson; conductor, Bro. A. R. Morgan; warden, Bro. A. G. Gibb; chaplain, Bro. E. McDonnell; R.S.N.G., Bro. D. Broome; L.S.N.G., Bro. K. Robinson; R.S.S., Bro. J. Niven; L.S.S., Bro. C. W. Newport; 1.G., Bro. L. Lovett; 0.G., Bro. C. Harding; R.S.V.G., Bro. C. M. Jensen; L.S.V.C., Bro. F. R. E. Darvill.

The Loyal Coromandel Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., had a good attendance at their fortnightly social last week. Dancing, cards, competitions and games made up the evening's programme, all being heartily entered into. A motor wedding competition was won by Mr. Bremen, whilst Mr. G. Proctor succeeded in knitting most peas in a given time. Miss E. Gibbs and Miss Jones each sang songs. The music for dancing was played by Miss Evans, Mrs. Jenkins and Mrs. Perfect.
