SUBURBAN BUSES.
LICENSES RENEWED. SOME MINOR RESTRICTIONS. AUTHORITY'S DECISION. "The authority is satisfied that the omnibus company is catering for a very substantial volume of traffic which the Railway Department is not at the present time in touch with," stated Mr. J. A. C. Allum. chairman of the No. 2 Licensing Authority, this morning, in giving the decision In regard to the application for renewal of bus licenses on the Auckland-Glen Eden-Hendereon route. When the Auckland Transport Company, represented by Mr. H. McKay, applied for the renewal of the licenses restrictions were urged by the Railway Department. The latter sought to preclude the company from stopping within a quarter of a mile of the railway stations at New Lynn, Glen Eden, Henderson and Croydon Road. The licenses were renewed until February 28, 1934. Certain restrictions which had been agreed upon between , the Passenger Transport Company and the Railway Department were incorporated in the licenses, which will be granted to the company when the bus terminal in the city lias been finalised by the City Council. The council has notified a number of operators that t"he terminal is to be transferred from Commerce Street to the old railway station site, and negotiations between the council and the various companies affected, which oppose the change, are in progress.
In reviewing the license of the Passenger Transport Company, which operates on the Great South Koad as far as Papatoefoe, the .authority imposed the- restrictions as follow:—(a) Buses not to run between the corner of St. George's and Carruth Roads and the Papatoetoe station; (b) buses not to run along Cornwall and Shirley lloads; (c) At Mangere crossing the present bus terminus at the Mangere railway station to be altered to Golf Road; (d) at Penrose the buses not to stop for the purpose of picking up or setting down passengers between Penrose Koad and Walls Koad. In regard to fares, with the exception of the Bucklaud Beach service, the special Id fare for children is to be cancelled, and substituted by a 2d return fare. This is to be charged by ticket issued only on the inward journey and when children are accompanied by an adult, who has purchased a return ticket on the inward journey.
