Concerning Gog and Magog, effigies of which are in the Guildhall, London, there are various legends. According to one, they represent the last survivors of a race of giants who infested Britain, and were extirpated by the Trojans, who went there eoon after the destruction of Troy. They were chained as porters before the palace gatee, and when they died the effigies took their place. Another legend states that one of the giante is Gogmagog,. and the other Cornineus, a British giant who killed him.
