STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

PREPARING FOR LATER MEETINGS. Drumfire and Dorian have rejoined the working members of the team of H. and A. Cutts at Riccarton. They will be prepared to race at Trentham in July, when they may be accompanied by the two-year-old Copyist, who was to have raced at Easter, but developed side trouble. Cricket Bat, Zecbruggc and Heather Glow are likely to be nominated for the Dunedin winter meeting.

A TE RAPA SPRINTER. Tradesman has not been produced since he won the Mt. Eden Handicap at the Avondale meeting last month, but is stated to be getting through a good prexsaration at Te Rapa. The son of Racet'iu revels in heavy going, and if these conditions prevail at the Te Kuiti meeting he will be in strong demand. Tradesman usually races well at Te Rapa and is sure to take a lot of beating in the Stewards' Handicap, the chief sprint event on Saturday. ENGAGED NEXT SATURDAY. Gay Broney continues to train on satisfactorily and will be an improved galloper the next time he is saddled up to race. This hack, who has plenty of speed, is also a better stayer than the majority of his class racing at the present time and should be worth following during the remainder of the season. Gay Broney is due to make his next appearance in the Rangitoto Handicap, one mile, at the Te Kuiti meeting on Saturday, and on past form he will be one of the hardest to beat. A FIT HORSE. Since Billy Boy last appeared in public the bulk of his work has been done on the flat, chiefly over a middle distance, and he has never been galloping better than he is doing at present. His condition is n'so better than at this period last season, fnd with a race at Te Rapa next Saturday he will be a very fit horse for his Great Northern engagements. Billy Boy will be schooled over the steeplechase fences at Ellcrslie during the coming week, and this will afford track watchers an opportunity to see this good jumper in action before the Northern meeting takes place.

READY FOR THE JOB. Thespis, one of the chief fancies for the Great Northern Hurdle Race, was a visitor to Ellerslie yesterday morning, being indulged in a schooling botit over four hurdles on the course proper. He was ridden by J, Burgess, who has been engaged to pilot him in the big hurdle event next month, and his display was highly satisfactory. So far Thespis has not beaten any class hurdlers in his previous successes, but he is a reliable jumper, who has-been steadily improving all the time, though ho has yet to prove his ability to run out a journey extending to two miles and a half. However, he has had plenty of racing and is now thoroughly Reasoned for the task ahead, and if he fails to finish in the money with the handy impost of 9.10 no excuses can be made i'or him.
