WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
EDGECTTMBE. Etlgccumbo Women's Institute discussed and voted upon remits for the Dominion conference, . for which Mrs. French was chosen as a delegate. The Rev. Wayiributh gave a talk on "The Leper Island," and the hostesses were Mrs. Hall, Miss Hall and Mrs. G. Irving.
HENDERSON. A meeting of the Henderson branch of the Women's Institute was held in the- Foresters' Hall on tho 4th inst. The president, Mrs. C. M. Stewart, presided. Miss Leslie gave. an interesting demonstration on tinfoil work. Competition for the best jar of chrysanthemums resulted in Mrs. R. H. Pollock being first and third, and Mrs. Morris second. The hostesses for tho evening were Mesdames Ash and Strong.
TE HOE. A meeting of the To Hoe. Women's Institute was held on Wednesday, when all tho members present signified their willingness to help in any way they can to help relieve the distress in the district. Mrs. Dickie was elected as delegate to attend tho Waikato Conference. A presentation was made a o Mesdames Twining and Cuff, who gained the highes-t mimber of points in last year's competitions. The competition for the month wae "The best vase- of flowers," and was won by Mrs. Cuff and Miss Green. Other competition were held, the winners being Mesdames Yearbury and Twining.
ARATOU. Tho Aratou Institute held its May meeting in the local schoolroom, where the president, Mrs. Gall, presided over a large gathering, including visitors from two newly-formed institutes, Mangaokewa and Mangapeehi. A competition, "Something suitable for the show," brought forth a collection of varied and useful articles. The winning entry was a shopping bag mada from an old tube by Mre. Gall. Vocal and pianoforte solos were given by Mr. Dickinson, Mr. Barlow and Miss Buck. Later, tho visiting presidents, on behalf of their institutes, thanked the Aratou members for a pleasant afternoon. Tea wae served by the hostesses, Mrs. Goodwin and Miss Boult.
PAPAMOA. Mrs. Bear presided at the last meeting, when most of the afternoon wae devoted to discussion of remits to be presented at the Dominion conference, to be held at Christchurch in July next. It was proposed that a delegate be chosen to attend the conference. Mrs. Reid, as head of the garden circle, gave a talk on the general routine of garden work. Tlje circle is to be complimented on the rather arduous undertaking of beautifying the Papamoa station grounds, the result being most satisfactory considering the difficult nature of the ground. The duties of librarian were allotted to Mrs. Teague. In the points prize competitions, "Buttonholes," "Something new for something old," the two first prizes went to Mrs. Pevreal and second prizes to Mesdames Reid and Lees Members are busy making a community quilt, which will be sold to swell the institute funds. The plants and produce stalls did a flourishing business, and the hostes6es .were Mesdames Shaw and Dickson.
