TRANSPORTING VOTERS.
AN ELECTION JOKE. (To tie Editor.) "Takapuna Elector/' in objecting to the Mayor's expressed gratitude, has no sense of humour—unless he happens to be on the losing side. But what a joke the whole thing is. Does "Takapuna Elector" imagine for one second that all who travel in candidates' cars must, and do, vote for that side? Cars are only a means of transport, and the Takapuna electors are too intelligent to be silently persuaded to vote for the "opposition" because it was "their" car they travelled in to the poll. It must be patent to "Takapuna Elector" that approximately four out of every seven who rode in the losing side's cars voted for Mr. Guiniven, and likewise three out of every seven who rode in the winning side's cars voted for Mr. Chalmers. Instead of declining a ride to the poll on the score of "principle" and starting an argument, doesn't "Takapuna Elector" think it better to accept (with thanks) and enjoy the humour of it? The principle of supplying cam and carrying only the one side's supporters is wrong, but so lone as it continues so long will "traitors" and° successful Mayors enjoy the joke. SECURITY.
