RELIEF OF DISTRESS.
ONEHOTGA COMMITTEE. The question of continuing relief to distressed families in Oneliunga was discussed by the Onehunga Relief Committee. Sub-committees were set up to arrange for weekly supplies of free meat on similar lines to those adopted last winter, and to make inquiry into the proposed agreement between the Unemployment Board and the freezing companies regarding the distribution of meat. It being reported that some 40 applications for men's working boots were on the books, it was agreed to finance the amount necessary for the purchase of that number. A statement of the work done by the committee during the past year will be presented to the affiliated bodies at a meeting next week, when officers will be elected and; policy discussed.
As there are 600 men employed on relief works in the borough, and the funds at the committee's disposal are depleted, it was decided to appeal to the Minister of Internal Affairs for an equitable share of the proceeds of tlie £10,000 art union.
