APPEAL FOR UNITY.
TEACHERS IN NEW ZEAIiANE. (By Telecraph.—Own 'Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. "Whatever the New Zealand Educational Institute has been instrumental in doing has been achieved because it spoke with the voice of the united teachers of the Dominion," said Mr. W. F. Abel, president of the New Zealand Educational Institute at the annual conference to-day in making an appeal for unity among teachers. "It cannot be claimed that every primary teacher is a member of the institute," the president added, "but when allowance is made for the large number unfortunately not in permanent employment, the membership of the institute is so large that it can claim indisputably to represent the views on educational matters of the teachers of New Zealand. I make an appeal to all to see that the influence of this, body is not undermined or usurped .by sectional associations, and if some of these minor bodies must exist, then I appeal to teachers to See that they do not usurp the functions of the institute. I feel sure that their legitimate ends could be attained without separate constitutions and within the institute."
