Our illustrations this week range from the wonders of present-day science to ancient architecture. There is a sharp contrast between the picture of the giant telescope on.the top right and the Stonehenge-like erection in Tonga. The telescope, which will be the largest in the Empire and the second largest in the world, is nearing completion at and has been two, years in the making. It ,s ?hTvelrl2oo It will Universitv as a memorial When Lord Bledisloe visited Tonga on his present cruise he visited the tnlithon (bottom right), near the tombs of ancient kings. This great erection is believed to date to the year 1200 It wil be observed that the top piece is dovetailed into the uprights. The tree in the picture on the bottom left is another Tongan sight. Under it Captain Cook landed on June 26, 1777. Lord Bledisloe passed this p be the iUustration sho w ß fhe ever-popular ceremony of changing the guard at Buckingham Palace. This was taken on a recent spring day, which drew a larger crowd than usual.
