RUSSIAN GOODS.
EMBARGO RAMIFICATIONS.
WILL PETROL BE AFFECTED?
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.);
WELLINGTON, Friday.
An early announcement of the Government's decision in reference to the restriction on the importation of certain goods from Eussia will be made by the Prime Minister, the Et. Hon. G. W. Forbes, who is now awaiting certain information from Great Britain.
The Minister of Customs, the Rt. Hon. ,T. G. Coates, said to-day that during the Ottawa Conference the question of trade with Eussia was discussed, and New Zealand then made it plain that she would co-operate with Great Britain in any action that Britain might decide to take. 'It had been, decided that, there should he concerted action.
It was ascertained from official quarters to-day that, although there is a likelihood of an embargo being placed on Eussian goods it will not apply to all Russian goods, nor will it necessarily npply to the same items affected by the British embargo of 80 per cent. It is understood that there are certain articles imported from Eussia which are essential for the carrying on of industries in New Zealand, and that these will not come under the ban. Petrol is the main item which is likely to be affected.
Representatives of companies trading in Russian petrol have been conferring with the Government, which, it is believed, is taking their position into, consideration.
