NEW DIRECTOR.
EDUCATIONAL HEAD. MR. LAMBOURNE APPOINTED. DIVISION OF DUTIES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Mr. N. T. Lambourne has been appointed Director of Education, in succession to Mr. T. B. Strong, who recently retired. The Minister of Education, the Hon. R. Masters, stated "to-day that as a result of a conference with the Public Service Commissioner, Mr. P. D. N. Verscliaffelt, an announcement would bfe made in a few days in respect of another officer who would be responsible for administration as distinct from the professional work of the Department. The Minister added that it was not proposed to restrict this appointment to members of the Education Department, or even to officers of the Public Service, but applications would be invited throughout the Dominion. Mr. N. T. Lambourne has of late held the position of Chief Inspector of Primary Schools with headquarters in Wellington. He was born at Mangere in 1877, being a son of Mr. Thomas Lambourne. In 1904 he married Miss Violet McGill. Mr. Lambourne was educated at Mangere and Auckland University College, graduating M.A. in 1910. He was headmaster of Napier Street School, Auckland, on the staff of the Auckland Training College, inspector of schools for Auckland, and senior inspector for the Wanganui district.
