BRITAIN ANXIOUS.
JAP. ADVANCE IN CHINA.
LONDON, April 21
Great anxiety is felt in Great Britain concerning possible developments in the Far East as the result of the steady push of the Japanese forces towards Tientsin, and the renewed threat to Peking arising out of Japanese activity on the direct, route from Jehol province. * Not only have British mining interests become involved by the Japanese advance into the Luan River area, where British-owned mines are situated, but political consequences will arise if the Japanese, as is feared, have their eyes on Peking. The Chinese, possibly, are deliberately diminishing their resistance to the Japanese inroad into China proper, with the idea of involving the League of Nations, and.-further embarrassing the Powers in Geneva.
