SINGLE MEN IN CAMP.
Let me tell "Old Colonial" (who attacks us) and another correspondent (who apologises for us) that they are both wrong. The single men in camps in this country are as tough as any. single men in any country in the world to-day, and probably could show a few points to single men of an older generation. Ask the citizens of Auckland if they think we are "soft." But there are various degrees of softness. For instance, there is" soft and hard stone, .so probably we can never attain the standard of "hardness'i # that "Old Colonial" •would set for us. In writing this lam assuming that he was a "tough guy" in his younger, days. AVe admit that the conditions prevailing and our traditional enemies have for the moment got the upper hand, but bv organised effort and the will to win through we can regain some of the ground that has been lost. What is needed to-day aro strategic leaders in the trade union movement and the relief workers to pull us out of the mess that past leaders landed us in. Anyway, we are far from sunk ("Single and Sunk," please note) and single men in camps are looking forward to the time when they will be able to take an active interest in the affairs of the country. YOUNG COLONIAL.
