MINING.
RETURN PROM OKARITO. The Okarito Five-Mile Beach Dredging Company, Limited, which is operating in South Westland, reports a return for the week ended April 20 of 102oz for 124 MAHAKIPAWA RETURN. The rclurn of Mahaklpawa floldflelds. Limited (Marlborough) for the week was 18or. Continuous mining operations were interfered with by pumping interruptions and the holidays. GOLDEN SANDS RETURN. The mine mnnager of Golden Sands, Limited (Barrytown, West Coast) reports a return of 41oz 6dwt retorted gold for 38 shifts. MINK MANAGERS' REPORTS. Monowai. —Keport for week ending April 22: —Zoehan section : Stoping over No. 3 level has boon continued with three machines working two shifts each. The main reef is producing ore of good grade from the stopes north and south of No. 1 rise. The north extension on the Zcehan reef is being continued with stopes north and south of No. 3 rise for a width of 3ft to 4ft of payable ore. On the western section of the Montana reef at No. 3 level the width of ore varies from 4ft to 6ft, nicely mineralised and of good grade, the whole being sent to the battery. Monowai section. No. 4 level: Side-stripping the hanging wall portion of the reef is being continued, exposing 12ft of ore without revealing the hanglngwall. North of Hollls' stope a round of holes exposed good grade mineralised ore in back of drive. The whole of the oro broken in this section has been sent to the mill. Dawn of Hope.—For week ending April 22.:—Stoping on the hangingwall dropper of the Golden Age reef was continued and nice dabs and colours of gold were seen in the stone broken. Messrs. Robinson and Fraser, tributiug on a footwall dropper of the Golden Age reef, continue to select a little picked stone. We have also been engaged cleaning out and making repairs to the timbers in the low level in the Waiotahi Creek. This work is also completed. Golconda. —During the week the drive from the winze on the hangingwall dropper was advanced sft. The dropper still shows gold when broken down. There is a small break in the face and it will take longer than expected for it to junction with the main reef. We have nearly completed cleaning up and reconditioning the chamber at the 70ft level, and should get a start driving into the hangingwall of thi main reef early next week. AUSTRALIAN PRICE OF GOLD. The price fixed by the Commonwealth Bank for gold, including jewellery, lodged at the Melbourne Mint, for the week ended April 13, was at the rate of approximately £6 15/11 a standard ounce (22 carats), equal to a premium of 74.54 per cent. Payment Is made according to the assay value of the gold. The price was 7d lower on the week. The price an ounce fine was £7 8/3, a fall of 8d on the week. The Commonwealth Bank's price for sovereigns at head office, Sydney, remains at 34/.
