HOSPITAL SUNDAY.

The observance of Hospital Sunday on the nearest Sunday to May 12, Florence Nightingale's Day, prevalent in many parts of the world, has almost been a dead letter in Auckland. In the South Island it is observed in Dunedin and other places with much acceptance by the congregations of many of the important churches, and an effort is being made this year to try and stimulate united interest throughout the Dominion in its observance. It is a time when special services in connection with our hospital and nursing, systems should be more fully recognised, and special men: tion made of them from, the pulpits of the country. It is pointed out that an appeal from the-leaders of the churches would do more good in drawing attention to the day than.in.any other way, and as a number have their headquarters in our northern city; including the heads of the Anglican and Presbyterian denominations, the matter could be easily arranged in the way indicated. The suggestion has been made that as the municipal elections will just.be over, and as the "churching" of new Mayors and councillors has become more general during recent years it would be a good time to combine these services with Hospital Sunday,. and the importance of service for others emphasised iu many directions and covering manifold activities.
