A NEW STAR ARISES.
JESSIE MATTHEWS AT PLAZA.
"There Goes the Bride," the new film in which Jessie Matthews, the screen s new sweetheart, is said to make an amazingly successful re-appearance, is rich in amusing sequences. There are many patrons who will be heartily amused bv that incident associated with the "theft of the pearl necklace of the hostess. The general belief is that the theft is just a prank on the part of the more highspirited guests. Then the lights are lowered and re-lit. Not only is the necklace replaced, but the salver has disappeared, too. There is a delightful interlude in which an aggrieved ex-fiancee (Carol Goodner) approaches the magistrate and charges Annette Marquand (Jessie Matthews) with stealing her fiance. The magistrate is courteous, but firm. "Madam," he says, "stealing a fiance isn't a crime! That's a woman's business! "There Goes the Bride" is Jessie Matthew's first starring role in British pictures. The English "Daily Mail" describes her as "a sensation." The "Evening News" as "a sparkling addition to the world's great film stars," while a certain prominent English critic says the picture might well be titled "Here "Comes the Star." Owen Nares plays opposite Miss Matthews in a role for which he is ideally suited. He is also supported by Jerry Verno. ;
