Valroe ajMIT Taneriri ran seven "furlongs in'. -1.34 4jo, there being little between them at the finish. Chief Cook covered half. a. mile in 51b. The etablemates, Imamint and Notamint, ran five furlongs in 1.7 1-5, the former showing to more . advantage. Searcher and Gay Broney were about on terms, two lengths in front of Mankill,, after traversing six.furlongs in 1.18 4-o, the first three if 38 3-ss. Mahkill.,was u bit sore after the gallop. Wee Muskran three furlongs in 38 4-ss, and six longs in 1.21. CouTthaven covered W similar distance in 1.22 1-s,'the first three furlongs in 41s. King March, Gay Marigold and Chief Joy were bunched at the end of six furlongs, which they did comfortably in 153 3-5. I United covered half a mile in 53 4-ss, Snd was easing up at the finish. Billy Boy and King Comet were timed to run a round in 2.2 Jl-5. There was little between them at ;the finish'. . ",.""' v . ,;• ~. The Jumpers. • Prince of Orange (H. Trishna (T. Chaplin) gave a safe display over two pony hurdles, .which he cleared twice. ■ Wee Prince (Garrett), Arch Eagle (Olive) and Patutahi (Burgess) were companions over six hurdles. Patutahi slipped after landing over Hhe fourth ./fence, but got going again and completed >his task. At the fifth fence Arch Eagle valso blundered,- and Wee Prince,, who finished _in . front, gave a. good ' display. Patutahi evidently ricked himself and was j jvery sore afterwards. f Catoma (Fergus) and General Lu (Olive) (jumped four hurdles without mistake, the former giving an improved display. ■ True' Blood was nominated for both the ] rßombay Hurdles and Pukekohe Cup on' Saturday, but his mission is the' latter "- event, in which he will be ridden by P. 'Atkins. True Blood is getting on in ■years, but succeeded in his first attempt Viover fences at Whangarei, and evidently . "still possesses some.of-his former, ability. ! liHis prospects of success on Saturday will fflbe more enhanced by further, rain, as he 'is jgj recognised mudlark. '••■*/' : l '.'-" Principal and Thespis were companions "_in a schooling bout over fences on Tuesday-' "morning. Thespis (L. Dulieu) 'dislodged his pilot at "the first ience, • Principal ,;(Mcllroy) waiting for Thespis to again 'join him over the final three which; vboth jumped in good style. There were j -two other gallops on' Tuesday; Cateh'e'm The Hiker over a Eix-furlong task I .; accomplished in 1.22. Catch'em* is coming, •,'to hand nicely. Tondaleyo, a "fourVyear-dld .".full sister to Catch'em, was three | in front of Armutum, with Revelation two.> lengths away, at the end of a similar task run in 120 1-5. Tondaleyo is' engaged in .. the Pukekawa Handicap on Saturday, and, k although she will be lacking; in/experience! .J has sufficient pace to make a good'showing. ■ I She is to be ridden in this event by ;C. He may go well at Pukekohe. ,•'. Regardez has raced in different classes 3 of late without success, and: in all-of his graces he gives the impression that he is ( .••lacking in stamina. He has natural jump»ing ability,-but cannot see out the'twelve: ; furlongs. However, he may improve in s '- this respect. . . Kind , tWords, Tondaleyo, and Armutumi, Musga : Swas second to My Money in a similar j event at Whangarei, and is expected to * again run-well.- Diversion's race.at-Avon-"dale should benefit her considerable, and,'at her best, she.will be very troublesome. This mare developed knee trouble recently, ;; which upset her preparation, but she is | now apparently free from the ailment; and, gas she will have the services of K. Voitre * on Saturday, ■ she 'will be assured of ". support. Of the remainder, Armutum has S'.shown most form, haying filled fourth place * to Cherry King, Hushing, and Sub-station | at Whangarei, while Kind Words, a sister to Cool Mint, .has made progress during the past few weeks. % .: , * Holly Lu,, who dead.heated with Master at Avondale, had disappointed on •-occasions previously. As a two-year-old * last season, Holly Lu, dead heated with :~ Impudent at Avondale; and 7 he 'has yet-to" I win a race outright, but. now that he has „' shown some-thing of the form'expected of - hjm he may do better. 1 Thespis looks none the worse for'.recent J racing, and can be depended.upon;for a - good effort should h'e be saddled.,.up, pnl ? Saturday. A. improve to win. However, she may take a hand in the finish of the Te Kohanga Handicap, as she has capabilities that must be recognised when she is at her best.

K. Voitre is to ride Diversion and Royal Artist on Saturday, while P. Atkins has been engaged for True Blood, Speedmint, and Gay Sheila in the Te Kohanga Handicap. C. Walters will be on The Hiker and Tondaleyp. ..„ ....

Speedmint went\ very well at Avondale to fill fourth position behind' Limes, Prolyxo, and. Aiguille. This. was her first attempt since-being.'thrown out of work; after., the ißotorua meeting. . Speedmint will again sport silk in the Paerata Handicap on Saturday, and, as the race at Avondale should prove beneficial, she may be worth while keeping in mind.

Two failures at Ellerslie and two more at Avondale have lost many admirers for Cherry King. However, this gelding should mould into a good class three-year-old.

Prior to Saturday Royal Artist had advanced in favour for the Foley Memorial Handicap, but on the eve of the big race rain fell and settled his prospects, and he ran accordingly. On top of the ground Royal Artist will do better in the Pukekohe Cup, but, in the event of further rain, his prospects will not be very promising, as he cannot handle soft tracks.

R. Miller has broken in several yearlings, and all have taken very kindly to their education. ThesS include a nice filly by Tidal—Queen March, and a 'halfbrother to Cylinder, by Chief Ruler— Gynien'e, who have ,;both done- very .well. Other Takanini youngsters niakihg good progress are the Gay Shield—Lady Maire filly, the Gay Shield—Sibford gelding, the Surveyor—Te Moti filly, and the GasbagPresumption filly.

A QUIET MORNING.

availabljl'jat Takanini this morning for fast work, but the going was heavy.

Cherry King went nicely over half a mile in 51s. Royal Artist was three lengths in front of Foulwind at the end of seven furlongs in 1.35, but neither horse relished the conditions. Musgo went well over six furlongs, beating Regardez by two lengths, with Armutum another three lengths away. The distance was covered in 1.20.
