WREATHS OH MEMORIALS. Anzac commemoration 'Services were held: yesterday in most of the suburbs. Takapuna ex-servicemen marched in the morning from Sanders Avenue to the Foresters' Hall, where the Mayor, Mr. J. Guiniven, presided, and the Revs. H. Trill, Morgan Richards, J. Hiddleston and E. S. Emmett took part in a memorial service. Wreaths were laid on memorials in the district. In the afternoon a service was held in O'Neill's Point Cemetery, under .the auspices of the Victoria League. At Northcote returned soldiers marched from the clubroom to the War Memorial, where a brief address'was given by the Mayor, Mr. R. Martin.. In the evening a service at the King's Theatre was conducted by the Revs. F. W. Wilkes, F. A. Thompson and W. Gatman, the Mayor presiding. Addresses were given by Captain J. G. C. Wales and the Rev. W. T. Blight. The service at Birkenhead was held in the civic reserve yesterday morning, the Mayor, Mr. George Mills, presiding. The service was conducted by the Revs. P. J. Wainwright, P. C. Davis and W. Gatman. Addresses were given by Sir George Richardson and the Rev. W. Walker. Official wreaths were laid on the War Memorial by the Mayor and Mayoress on behalf of the Borough Council, and by 'representatives of the returned soldiers, Women's Association, school children, Girl Guides and other organisations. The Birkenhead Borough Band, under Lieut. J. T. Lighten, played the "Dead March" and the "Last Post," and "Reveille" was sounded by Bugler R. W. Norris, of H.M.S. Philomel. A united service was held in the Public Hall, Papatoetoe, yesterday afternoon. The attendance was large, and in the absence of Mr. W. J. Nicholson, chairman of the Town Board, Mr. J. Franklin, presided. The Service was conducted by Revs. T. H. Roseveare and F. A. Daglisb, and an address was given by the Rev. T. Partridge. After the service a procession of returned soldiers and territorials under Major F. V. Closey was led by the Papatoetoe Town Board to the memorial gates of the public school on the Great South Road, where wreaths were laid. - Following a short address by Major Closey, as president of the Otahuhu Returned Soldiers' Association, a volley was fired, and the "Last Post and "Reveille" sounded by the band. The service at Jellicoe Park, Onehunga, was presided over by the Mayor, Mr. E. Morton, who hoisted the Union Jack on the newly-erected flagpole. Pastor H. Thornley delivered an address, and wreaths were placed at the base of the memorial arch. On behalf of the residents the Mayor of Devonport, Mr. H. F. W. Meikle laid a wreath on the War Memorial in front of the Borough Council Chambers. Under the auspices of the Point Chevalier Ex-Servicemen's Social Club, a special service was held at the Ambassador Theatre by Pastor A. Grundy and the Revs. H. B. Wingfleld and H. Louden. After the laying of wreaths on the Otahuhu War Memorial a commemoration service was held in the Orpheus Theatre. A separate service for children was held in the district school grounds, where wreaths were laid at the memorial gates. » •
