IRISH PUZZLE.
I » ■ FREE STATE POSITION, Complicated Constitutional Problem. MEMBERSHIP OF EMPIRE. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyrlgit) (Received 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, April 25. "The Sun" learns that a statement is being prepared outlining Britain's interpretation of the Free State's position as from May 3 when the oath of allegiance will disappear from the Constitution. It is a■. highly complicated constitutional position. The Free State will retain membership of the Empire, enjoying all the privileges apart from the Ottawa agreements. Irishmen will remain British subjects under the ..Inglo-Irish treaty, the Balfour declaration, and the Statute of Westminster. Secession is only possible by the declaration of a Eepublic, which is dependent on Ulster's willingness to unite and the Free State becoming selfsupporting, of which there is little prospect.
